The Overview tab in a whole life Policy Workspace captures structural details from the original contract. These are mostly stable policy facts, separate from the changing values recorded in snapshots.
Whole life only. Premium structure, PUA mechanics, cash value, and policy loans apply to whole life policies. Term Life and Convertible Term Life policies use a shorter detail view without these sections.
What Overview Records
Overview records the policy design, including the premium structure, riders, dates, dividend option, and loan terms. It also displays the latest Actual policy position from snapshots, but editing contract structure does not create a snapshot.
Where to Find This Information
The values come from your original policy contract. The specification pages near the front carry most premium and rider details. If the contract is unavailable, a current in-force illustration can provide many of the same fields.
Update Policy Structure
- Open your policy — navigate to Policies and click on the policy you want to configure
- Stay on Overview — the editable policy ledger is the first tab
- Use Edit for policy facts — carrier, insured, owner, dates, status, dividend option, loan method, riders, and notes
- Open the premium editor — select Total Premium, Base Premium, PUA Premium, or Premium Structure to update scheduled amounts and payment frequency
- Review the saved rows — Overview updates the recorded policy structure and the Premium Schedule tab uses the same planned values
Understanding Premium Structure
Your total annual premium is typically composed of:
- Base Premium — the required premium for the whole life contract
- PUA Rider — additional premium that purchases paid-up additions, building cash value faster
- Term Rider — premium for term insurance coverage, often used to increase the death benefit corridor and allow higher PUA contributions without triggering MEC status
If your policy was designed for whole life banking, it likely has a significant PUA rider relative to the base premium. This is by design — PUA contributions accelerate cash value growth.
When to Update Policy Structure
Contract structure generally does not change. Update the recorded facts when:
- Your carrier adjusts premium amounts
- You change your PUA contribution level
- You drop or modify a rider
