A carrier portal connection lets Policy Stack pull current policy values directly from your carrier's online portal, so your dashboard stays current without manual data entry between annual statements.
Carrier portal connections are available for a growing list of carriers. If your carrier is not yet supported, manual snapshot entry works exactly the same way — see Understanding Policy Snapshots for details.
Why Connect Your Portal
Annual statements arrive once a year. Your actual cash value, loan balance, and death benefit change every month — dividends credit, interest capitalizes, PUAs accumulate. Without a portal connection, your dashboard only reflects those changes when you manually enter a new snapshot.
A portal connection lets Policy Stack pull current values on a more frequent schedule so your Data Freshness stays green, your charts show smoother trajectories, and you can see the effect of events — like taking a loan or making a loan repayment — reflected quickly rather than waiting for the next statement.
Benefits at a glance:
- More frequent dashboard updates without manual entry
- Loan balances and capitalized interest stay current between statements
- Data Freshness indicator stays current automatically
- Historical snapshots created automatically from portal data, building richer chart history
How to Connect
- Open the policy — click on the policy you want to connect from the Policies list
- Go to the Settings tab — click Settings at the top of the policy detail page
- Click Connect Carrier Portal — if your carrier is supported, the Connect button will be visible. If it is grayed out or absent, your carrier is not yet connected.
- Sign in to your carrier account — you will be redirected to your carrier's portal login. Use the same credentials you use to log in at the carrier's website directly.
- Authorize read-only access — Policy Stack requests read-only access only. It cannot make changes to your policy, request loans, or perform any transactions.
- Return to Policy Stack — after authorization, you are redirected back. Policy Stack immediately pulls your most recent values and creates a snapshot.
If the connection flow fails, check that you are using the correct carrier portal credentials and that your carrier account does not have two-factor authentication requirements that block third-party access. Try again from a desktop browser if on mobile.
What Gets Synced
Each sync pulls the following from your carrier portal:
| Value | Notes | |---|---| | Cash surrender value | The current CSV as reported by the carrier | | Total death benefit | Including accumulated paid-up additions | | Outstanding loan balance | Including any capitalized interest added since your last sync | | Most recent dividend | If credited since the last sync |
These values become a new snapshot in Policy Stack automatically, labeled with the sync date.
Privacy and Security
Portal connections are read-only. Policy Stack cannot take loans, change policy settings, update beneficiaries, or perform any transactions on your behalf. Your carrier credentials are used only to authenticate with your carrier's portal and are not stored by Policy Stack — the connection uses a secure token provided by the carrier's authorization system.
Managing the Connection
From the policy Settings tab, you can:
- View connection status — see when the last sync occurred and whether the connection is active
- Sync now — manually trigger a fresh pull at any time
- Disconnect — remove the portal connection. Your existing snapshots remain intact — disconnecting does not delete historical data.
When Your Carrier Is Not Supported
If the Settings tab does not show a carrier portal connection option, your carrier is not yet in the supported list. Recording snapshots manually is the alternative — and it works identically in the dashboard and analytics.
You can check quarterly by logging into your carrier's online portal and recording a manual snapshot from the values shown. See Understanding Policy Snapshots for the full walkthrough.
Even with a portal connection active, recording a snapshot from your official annual statement each year gives you a verified, carrier-issued data point. Annual statements sometimes include values not reflected in portal displays — dividends credited on the exact anniversary date, for example.
