Optimizing Your Directory Listing
Your directory listing is the first impression prospects have of your practice. A complete, well-written listing earns more profile views and consultation requests than a sparse one. This guide covers what makes a listing stand out and how directory ranking works.
What Makes a Listing Stand Out
The directory displays a card for each advisor with your photo, name, company, tagline, and credentials. Prospects scan these cards quickly — clarity and completeness matter more than length.
Five elements separate strong listings from forgettable ones:
- Professional photo — a clear headshot with a clean background. Listings with photos receive significantly more clicks than those without.
- Clear tagline — a single sentence that tells prospects what you do and who you serve. Avoid vague language; be specific about your focus.
- Complete credentials — every certification you hold (CLU, ChFC, CFP, etc.) appears as a badge and is searchable by keyword.
- Booking link — a calendar link activates the Book a Call button, letting prospects schedule directly without waiting for an email exchange.
- Detailed bio — 100–200 words covering your background in whole life banking, the types of clients you work with, and your approach.
How Directory Ranking Works
Directory results are sorted by a combination of two factors:
- Profile completeness — listings with all fields filled (photo, bio, tagline, credentials, booking link, location) rank higher than incomplete profiles
- Engagement signals — profiles that receive more consultation requests and profile views over time move up in results
Featured advisors (Practice 25+ plans) always appear at the top of results, above standard listings. Within the featured group and the standard group, the same completeness and engagement ranking applies.
Writing a Strong Tagline
Your tagline appears directly below your name on the directory card. It has an 80-character limit, so every word counts.
Effective taglines follow a pattern: what you do + who you serve.
| Example | Why It Works | |---------|-------------| | "Whole life banking strategies for business owners and real estate investors" | Specific audience, clear focus | | "Helping families build generational wealth through private banking systems" | Clear outcome, defined audience | | "Capital strategies for entrepreneurs scaling beyond $1M revenue" | Specific niche, quantified audience |
Avoid generic taglines like "Financial professional" or "Helping people with their money" — these don't differentiate your listing in a directory of advisors who all work in the same space.
Bio Keywords and Search Discoverability
When prospects search the directory, their query matches against your name, tagline, bio, credentials, and location. Including relevant terms in your bio improves the chance your listing appears in filtered results.
Consider naturally incorporating:
- Geographic terms — your city, state, or region
- Client types — business owners, physicians, real estate investors, young professionals
- Practice focus areas — whole life banking, capital strategies, policy design, family banking systems
- Credential names — write them out in addition to the abbreviation (e.g., "Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU)")
Write your bio for humans first, then review it for keyword coverage. A bio that reads naturally and includes relevant terms performs better than one stuffed with keywords.
Adding Certifications and a Booking Link
These two fields have an outsized impact on listing performance:
- Navigate to Profile → Edit Profile
- Add certifications in the Credentials section — click Add Certification for each designation you hold
- Add your booking link in the Social and Contact Links section — paste your Calendly, Cal.com, or other scheduling URL
- Verify your public profile to confirm the Book a Call button and credential badges appear
A listing with credentials and a booking link signals to prospects that you're established and accessible — two qualities that drive consultation requests.
