Revoking a Seat
Revoking a seat releases it to your pool immediately. The client keeps Builder Pro during the 7-day transition window, then continues on Starter unless self-pay or another active seat takes over.
When You Might Revoke a Seat
There is no single right time to revoke a seat. Common situations include:
- A client relationship has ended
- You are at capacity and need to reassign the seat to a new client
- The client has decided to subscribe to Builder Pro on their own
- You are restructuring your service offering
How to Revoke a Seat
-
Open your advisor dashboard and navigate to the Clients section.
-
Locate the client whose seat you want to revoke. Seated clients display a "Seated" badge next to their name.
-
Click the client's row to open their detail panel.
-
Click Revoke Seat. A confirmation dialog appears.
-
Confirm the revocation. The seat returns to your pool the moment you confirm.
Revocation releases the assigned seat immediately. The client receives an email describing the 7-day Builder Pro transition, with a 20% off coupon (ADVISOR_TRANSITION) for self-pay annual Builder Pro. On their next login, the billing notice walks them through the change.
What the Client Sees
When you revoke a seat:
- The client receives a seat-loss email immediately, explaining the 7-day transition, reassuring them their data is safe, and linking to
/settings/billingwith the 20% off coupon pre-applied. - On next login, a blocking modal walks them through what changed.
- They keep Builder Pro for seven days. If they do not start self-pay and have no other active seat, the account continues on Starter after that window. Their data stays intact; one policy remains editable on Starter, while additional policies and all asset and goal records become view-only or locked.
If the client already had their own self-pay Builder Pro subscription, that one takes over seamlessly with no interruption.
Does This Disconnect the Client?
No. Revoking a seat does not disconnect the client from your advisor account. You continue to have the access level the client granted, subject to their data-sharing consent. To remove them from your client list entirely, you also need to disconnect — which is a separate action in the advisor dashboard.
See Seat Expires but Connection Stays for why these are independent.
Reassigning the Seat
Once you revoke a seat, that seat slot becomes available in your advisor account. You can assign it to another client immediately.
Letting Clients Know Ahead of Time
The system email is matter-of-fact, but a personal heads-up before you revoke avoids surprise. For client-initiated transitions (they decided to self-pay), this is especially worth doing.
