Resubscribing After Cancellation
If your advisor subscription has ended — whether due to cancellation or a payment failure — you can resubscribe at any time. Your connections and data are preserved throughout.
What Is Preserved When You Cancel
Cancelling your advisor subscription does not delete any data. When you return:
- All of your previous client connections are intact
- Your advisor dashboard history is intact
- Your own Policy Stack account data is fully preserved
What is not preserved: seat assignments. When you resubscribe, you need to reassign seats to clients. This is a deliberate step — it gives you the chance to review which clients to assign seats to under your reactivated subscription.
Because connections persist through cancellation, resubscribing does not require your clients to go through any reconnection process. They are already linked to your account.
Resubscribing
When your advisor subscription ends — by cancellation or freeze — every assigned seat is released and each affected client receives an email. They keep Builder Pro for seven days, then continue on Starter unless self-pay or another seat takes over. Their data is preserved in full.
-
Open your advisor dashboard. A banner indicates your account is frozen.
-
Click Reactivate Subscription in the banner or navigate to /practice/settings/billing.
-
Select your advisor tier. You can return to your previous tier or choose a different one.
-
Confirm your payment method and complete the subscription.
-
Assign seats to your clients from the Clients section. Previously seated clients still appear in your client list — open the profile and click Assign Seat.
Once you reassign a seat, that client jumps back to Builder Pro at the moment you confirm. Their data is exactly where they left it.
What Persists Through Cancellation
- Their connection to your practice (your read-only data access continues, subject to data-sharing consent)
- Every record in their account — policies, snapshots, assets, goals
- Any in-flight data sharing consents and notification preferences they had set
Reach out to clients before resubscribing to let them know seats are coming back. This avoids any confusion about the gap period and reinforces the continuity of the relationship.
Returning to a Different Tier
You are not required to return to the same advisor tier you had before. If your practice has grown or changed, you can select any tier when resubscribing. Your seat allowance is determined by the tier you choose at resubscription.
Data Continuity for Clients
When your subscription ends and you later resubscribe, your clients' data is always intact. Policy Stack never deletes data due to billing state changes. A client who reverted to Starter and then receives a seat again from you will find all of their records exactly as they left them.
