Exporting Your Data
Policy Stack allows Builder Pro subscribers to export their banking system data in CSV and PDF formats. This article covers what you can export, the available formats, and common use cases.
Data export is a Builder Pro feature. Starter users will see export buttons in the interface, but clicking them will prompt an upgrade to Builder Pro.
What You Can Export
Policy Stack supports exporting data from each major area of your banking system:
| Data Type | What's Included | |-----------|----------------| | Policies | Policy details — carrier, type, premium structure, issue date, status | | Snapshots | Point-in-time cash value, death benefit, and loan balance records | | Policy loans | Loan dates, amounts, rates, and current balances | | Deployments | Capital deployment records with asset type, amount, and return data | | Banking ledger | Complete log of all capital events in your system | | Repayment schedules | Capital repayment plans including amounts and timelines |
Export Formats
CSV (Comma-Separated Values)
CSV files open in any spreadsheet application — Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or LibreOffice Calc. Each export produces a single file with column headers matching the field names in Policy Stack.
CSV is best for:
- Working with raw numbers in a spreadsheet
- Importing into other financial tracking tools
- Filtering and sorting large datasets
PDF exports produce a formatted, readable document suitable for printing or sharing. PDFs include Policy Stack branding and the date of export.
PDF is best for:
- Sharing with your advisor or carrier
- Keeping formatted records
- Printing physical copies
How to Export
You can export data in two ways:
- Per-feature export — on any feature page (Policies, Deployments, Loans, Ledger), look for the Export button in the top-right area. Click it and select CSV or PDF. This exports only the data visible on that page.
- Export All — go to Settings → Export All to download a complete archive of your entire banking system. This produces a ZIP file containing separate CSV files for each data type.
The Export All option is useful before making major changes to your system or as a periodic backup of your records.
Common Use Cases
Sharing with Your Advisor
If you work with a whole life banking advisor, exporting your policy snapshots and deployment data gives them a clear picture of your system without needing direct access to your Policy Stack account.
Personal Record Keeping
Periodic exports serve as an offline backup. Even though Policy Stack stores your data securely with encryption at rest, having your own copies provides an extra layer of assurance.
Tax Preparation
While Policy Stack does not provide tax advice or generate tax documents, exported data — particularly policy loan activity and deployment cash flows — can be useful reference material when preparing your records for a tax professional.
Transitioning Away
Your data belongs to you. If you ever choose to stop using Policy Stack, the Export All feature ensures you leave with everything you entered.
