Connecting with an Advisor
Policy Stack allows you to connect your account with a whole life banking advisor. This enables your advisor to access your Policy Stack data at the permission level you choose, provide context during conversations, and optionally fund your Builder Pro access through an advisor seat.
Ways to Connect
You Find an Advisor in the Directory
Policy Stack maintains a directory of advisors who have created Advisor accounts on the platform. You can browse the directory and send a connection request.
- Navigate to Settings → Connections, or find the "Find an Advisor" link in the Help section.
- Browse the advisor directory. Filter by name, location, or specialty if available.
- Click an advisor's profile to view their details.
- Click "Request Connection" to send a connection request to that advisor.
- Wait for the advisor to accept. You will receive a notification when they do.
An Advisor Invites You
If your advisor already has a Policy Stack Advisor account, they can send you a connection invite directly.
- Check your email for an invitation from your advisor. The email comes from team@policystack.co.
- Click "Accept Invitation" in the email.
- Log in or create a Policy Stack account if you do not have one.
- Review the connection request and choose the data access level.
- Accept or decline the connection. New connections default to read/write access, and you can downgrade to read-only or no data access before accepting.
Your Advisor Prepared Policies for You
If your advisor set up your policies in Policy Stack before you created your account, a card on your Home offers to connect and populate your account in one step. See When Your Advisor Sets Up Policies for You for how that card works.
You control what your advisor can access. Review the permissions carefully before accepting. You can adjust or revoke access at any time from Settings → Connections.
Advisor Access Levels
When you connect with an advisor, you choose the level of data access they have. Policy Stack offers three access levels:
Read/write Your advisor can view all shared data and make additions or edits, including entering snapshots, adding loans, recording loan repayments, and updating records. All changes are logged with the source (advisor vs. account holder) in the Banking Ledger.
Read-only Your advisor can see your shared policies, loans, deployments, snapshots, and goals, but cannot make changes to your data.
No data access The advisor remains in your connection history or CRM relationship state, but does not have access to your banking system data.
Regardless of access tier, your advisor cannot see your payment information, your account password, or any data that is not within Policy Stack. The connection is scoped entirely to your Policy Stack data.
Adjusting or Revoking Access
- Go to Settings → Connections.
- Find the advisor connection you want to modify.
- Click the connection to open the detail view.
- Select a different access level, or click "Disconnect" to remove the connection entirely.
- Confirm your change.
Revoking access takes effect immediately. Your advisor loses access to your account data the moment you disconnect.
Disconnecting does not affect a separate self-pay Builder Pro subscription. If your Builder Pro access comes from the advisor seat, the disconnect dialog lets you start self-pay checkout or drop to Starter immediately. A client-initiated Drop to Starter choice does not use the 7-day seat-loss transition.
Privacy and Data Sharing
Policy Stack is built on the principle that your banking system data belongs to you. Advisor connections are designed with that in mind:
- You initiate or explicitly accept every connection
- You choose the access level
- You can revoke access at any time with immediate effect
- Advisor actions in your account are logged separately in the Banking Ledger
- Policy Stack does not share your data with any third party other than your explicitly connected advisors
If you have questions about a specific data access scenario, contact support@policystack.co.
