I Tried to Log a Repayment and Got an Error
A per-loan repayment cannot apply more principal than the loan's current tracked balance.
Two Balance Errors
- Older snapshot-reconciliation marker — the message says the loan was last set by an older snapshot reconciliation and the repayment is larger than the current tracked balance.
- Generic balance limit — the message says the payment exceeds the remaining loan balance.
The first state can remain on loans that were adjusted by a previous snapshot flow. Current production snapshot saves do not create a new proportional adjustment or silently rewrite an existing tracked loan.
Review the Record
- Open the loan detail page and review Current Balance.
- Review the repayment amount and payment type. Interest-only amounts do not reduce principal; principal and mixed payments do.
- Log no more principal than the current tracked balance.
- If the tracked balance itself is incorrect, edit Current Balance on the loan detail page before recording the repayment. Editing a snapshot changes the carrier history, not that tracked balance.
If a newly saved snapshot is still showing a detected-repayment follow-up, accepting Log repayment records the event and applies it once. Policy Stack checks for an already-recorded snapshot balance event and never reduces the balance twice.
Generic Error Checks
For "Payment exceeds remaining loan balance," also verify that:
- The amount has no extra digit or decimal-place error
- The selected loan is the intended record
- The loan has not already reached a zero tracked balance
The policy-level Log repayment Quick Action remains available when one carrier payment needs to be distributed across multiple active loans. See Logging a Loan Repayment.
