Deleting Your Account
Account deletion permanently removes your Policy Stack account and the data owned by that account. Because deletion touches billing, access, collaborators, team seats, and agency ownership, Policy Stack checks for unresolved responsibilities before the deletion can finish.
Deletion is permanent. Export any records you want to keep before starting the deletion flow.
What Gets Removed
When deletion completes, Policy Stack removes the account and its owned records, including:
- Profile and household records
- Policies, snapshots, policy loans, deployments, goals, documents, and ledger history owned by the account
- AI conversation history and saved account-level preferences
- Advisor, team, collaborator, and notification links tied to the deleted account
Records that belong to other people are not deleted just because they were connected to you. For example, a collaborator's own account and an advisor's practice account remain separate.
What Must Be Handled First
Deletion fails closed when an unresolved responsibility would otherwise be left behind:
- Active Stripe subscriptions must be canceled or cleaned up before account data is purged.
- Agency owners must transfer ownership or dissolve the agency before deleting the owner account.
- Agency billing admins must transfer billing responsibility before deletion.
- Practice owners with team members must remove or hand off team access before deletion where required.
- Advisor/team/client access links are closed as part of deletion so paid seats and workspace access are not orphaned.
If one of these checks blocks deletion, the deletion page explains what needs to happen before trying again.
Billing and Seats
Deleting an account is not a best-effort billing action. Policy Stack verifies billing cleanup before purging data so a deleted user is not left with an active subscription or paid seat.
Team seats are removed from the practice billing seat count when team access ends. Client seats, advisor subscriptions, and owner-covered agency billing are handled according to the access model that created them.
Who Is Notified
When deletion ends another person's access, Policy Stack sends notifications where applicable:
- Collaborators are told when their access to your account ends.
- Advisors are told when a connected or seated client relationship ends.
- Team members are told when their team access ends.
The notification names the affected account when Policy Stack has a display name or email address available.
How to Delete Your Account
- Open Settings.
- Go to the account or danger-zone section.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Read the blockers and confirmation details.
- Type the requested confirmation value.
- Submit the deletion request.
If deletion is blocked, complete the listed billing or ownership action first, then return to the deletion flow.
If You Do Not Have an Active Subscription
You can still delete your account without activating a new subscription. If the deletion page says an account is missing subscription context, contact support so the account can be reviewed without creating a new paid or free checkout session.
