Ownership entities group assets and liabilities under the structure that holds them, such as personal ownership, an LLC, a partnership, or a trust. Each entity also records the household's Ownership %.
What the Percentage Does
Net Worth includes only the recorded ownership share of assets and liabilities assigned to an entity.
For example, if an entity is recorded at 50% ownership, a $200,000 asset contributes $100,000 to the household asset rollup and a $40,000 liability contributes $20,000 to the household liability rollup. The underlying asset and liability records remain $200,000 and $40,000; the percentage changes only the ownership-adjusted rollup.
Set Ownership During Asset Setup
In the Add Asset wizard, Owner is Step 7:
- Choose Personal name when no separate entity applies.
- Choose an existing entity.
- Select Add entity to create an LLC, partnership, trust, or other structure without leaving the wizard.
Ownership is optional. Personal ownership is the default when no separate entity is selected.
Review or Change a Split
Entity selectors show the entity's recorded ownership percentage. Use Manage ownership splits beside an entity selector, the entity manager in Net Worth, or Settings → Entities to:
- Review all recorded entities
- Add an entity
- Edit its name, type, notes, or Ownership %
- Archive a non-personal entity when it is no longer used
Ownership must be between 0% and 100%. After a change, Net Worth uses the updated share for every asset and liability assigned to that entity. The change does not rewrite their recorded balances or transaction history.
Policy Stack displays the ownership structure and math you record. It does not determine legal or tax ownership.
