Upgrading from a personal account to an advisor account
If you use Policy Stack to track your own banking system and also coach or help others implement whole life banking, you can elevate your account to an advisor account. This gives you a dedicated practice workspace alongside your existing personal data — without losing anything you have already entered.
Who this is for
This path is for Policy Stack users who:
- Already have a personal account (Starter or Builder Pro) tracking their own whole life policies
- Also work with clients — whether as a licensed agent, an independent coach, or someone who helps family members and friends navigate whole life banking
Elevating adds an advisor practice layer on top of your existing account. Your personal policies, loans, deployments, and goals remain exactly where they are.
What changes when you elevate
When you elevate to an advisor account, the following are added to your account:
- Practice sidebar — a dedicated navigation section for your practice workspace, separate from your personal banking system view
- Client seats — the number of client accounts you can connect to your practice, determined by your practice tier (see Advisor Tier Comparison below)
- Public profile and directory listing — Practice 25 and Practice 50 tiers include a public-facing advisor profile and a listing in the Policy Stack advisor directory, where prospective clients can find and connect with you
- Advisor onboarding — a guided setup to configure your practice name, profile details, and first client workflow
The following do not change:
- Your personal policies, loans, deployments, snapshots, and goals — all untouched
- Your personal data encryption and access controls
- Your personal account login and email address
Advisor Tier Comparison
All paid practice tiers include every advisor feature. The tiers differ only in included client seats and a few additional items:
| Tier | Monthly | Included Seats | Overflow Seats | Branded Exports | Featured Directory | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Practice Solo | $49 | 0 | — | — | — | | Practice 10 | $149 | 10 | Available to purchase | Included | — | | Practice 25 | $299 | 25 | Available to purchase | Included | Included | | Practice 50 | $449 | 50 | Available to purchase | Included | Included |
Every practice tier gives you access to the full practice feature set: client management, CRM, pipeline, smart lists, workflows, scenarios, and the advisor analytics suite. Every tier also includes a 30-day free trial with your full seat allowance active from day one, and your own personal Builder Pro access for tracking your own banking system.
How to upgrade
- Open Settings → Subscription & Billing in the sidebar.
- Find the "Elevate to Advisor" card and click "Set up your practice".
- You will land in the advisor onboarding flow at
/advisors/onboard. - Select the practice tier that fits your needs (Practice Solo, 10, 25, or 50).
- Complete the Stripe checkout.
- Return to your practice dashboard — your advisor workspace is now active.
After checkout, both your personal banking system and your practice workspace are accessible from the same account. The sidebar updates to show both sections.
What if I am on Builder Pro?
Builder Pro and advisor tiers are separate billing products. When you elevate:
- Stripe prorates the unused time remaining on your Builder Pro billing period and applies it as a credit toward your first advisor subscription charge
- You are not double-charged for the transition period
- Builder Pro features (AI in Full Mode, unlimited policies, document extraction, and the currently live strategic tools) remain available inside your account — your personal data access does not change
Before you confirm, the billing preview shows the exact Amount due today and breaks it into the Practice charge, Builder Pro credit, any taxes, discounts, or account-balance adjustment, and any remaining credit. It also shows the next monthly charge. The preview date is carried into confirmation so the displayed proration and the submitted change use the same Stripe calculation.
If your Builder Pro subscription was annual, the prorated credit covers the unused portion of the annual term.
What if I have Builder Pro through my advisor's client seat?
If your current Builder Pro access comes from an advisor who has assigned you a client seat, elevating ends that seat relationship. Your account is billed directly for the practice tier you select starting at checkout. Your personal data — policies, deployments, goals, and history — remains intact regardless of the seat relationship ending.
Can I downgrade back to a personal account?
Yes. To return to a personal-only account:
- Go to Settings → Billing.
- Select "Downgrade" or "Cancel practice subscription."
- Confirm the change — your practice subscription ends at the close of the current billing period.
When the practice subscription ends:
- Your practice workspace (clients, CRM, pipeline, workflows) becomes inaccessible
- Your personal policies, loans, deployments, and goals are fully preserved
- You return to whatever consumer tier you had prior to elevating (or Starter if you did not have an active consumer subscription)
Client connections are paused, not deleted — if you resubscribe to an advisor tier in the future, your prior client history can be restored.
Privacy and data separation
Your personal banking system data and your practice client data are fully separated at the data layer. Clients you connect to your practice can only see what you explicitly share with them. Your personal policies and financial data are never visible to your clients.
