Partner Collaboration
Partner collaboration lets you share your household with one other person on Builder Pro. Both of you get the same full access to policies, snapshots, loans, assets, goals, the banking ledger, AI Assistant, and tools. This article walks through the full lifecycle — invite, accept, manage, what happens if your subscription changes, and how to disconnect.
Partner collaboration is included with Builder Pro. Starter accounts see an upgrade prompt on Settings → Collaboration and cannot send invites.
Inviting a Partner
- Go to Settings → Collaboration.
- Enter your partner's email address.
- Click Send Invitation. Review the access summary in the confirmation dialog and confirm.
- Your partner receives an email with an accept link. The invite stays in Pending until they accept.
A household can have at most one active partner at a time. If you already have a pending invite or an active partner, the invite UI is replaced with management controls for that connection.
Invitation States
| State | What it means | What you can do | |-------|---------------|-----------------| | Pending | Invite sent, not accepted yet | Resend, or cancel the invite | | Active | Partner accepted and is sharing your household | Disconnect at any time | | Grace | Builder Pro lapsed; partner keeps access for 30 days | Reactivate Builder Pro to return to active | | Removed | Grace expired, or you disconnected the partner | Send a new invite at any time |
What Your Partner Can See and Do
Once they accept, your partner has the same view you have:
- All policies, cash value snapshots, and loan history
- The banking ledger and capital event records
- Asset contributions and goals
- Uploaded documents and files
- The AI Assistant and the tools available to the household's Builder Pro plan
Partner actions are recorded in the collaboration activity log with their name attached, so you can always see who did what.
When Your Subscription Changes
Partner collaboration depends on Builder Pro being active on your account (the primary). If your subscription lapses for any reason — you cancel, you downgrade to Starter, or your payment fails and you stay past-due for 7 days — partner access does not end immediately.
The collaboration enters a 30-day grace window. During that window:
- Both of you keep full access to the household exactly as before
- Both of you receive an email when the window opens
- All data stays visible and editable
- If you reactivate Builder Pro inside the window, the collaboration returns to active automatically — nothing is lost
If the grace window expires, the partner is removed and you receive a final notification. Their authentication record is cleared from Policy Stack, but the activity log keeps their name on every entry they recorded.
The 30-day collaboration grace window is separate from the carrier's policy grace period (the 30–31 day window after a missed premium during which a policy stays in force). The two periods govern unrelated things and can both apply to a household at the same time.
Disconnecting a Partner
You can remove a partner from your household at any time:
- Go to Settings → Collaboration.
- Click Remove partner on the active collaboration card.
- Confirm in the dialog.
Removal is immediate — there is no grace window when you initiate the disconnect yourself. The partner's authentication record is cleared right away. Activity log attribution is preserved.
What Happens to Activity History
Every entry in the collaboration activity log captures the partner's display name at the moment the entry was recorded. When a partner is later removed (whether through lapse-driven grace expiration or manual disconnect), their account record is cleared but the historical attribution stays. Past activity always shows who did what — even after their account is gone.
Common Questions
Can I have more than one partner? No. A household can have at most one active partner at a time. If you want to invite someone new, disconnect the current partner first.
Does my partner have their own subscription? No. Partner access is provided through your Builder Pro subscription. Your partner does not pay anything and does not have a separate Policy Stack account outside the household.
What if my partner wants their own banking system? They can leave the household and create a separate account at any time. Their data within your household stays with the household.
Will I be warned before grace expires? Yes. You receive an email when grace opens, a reminder before it closes, and a final notification at expiration.
